THE B-17 WAS CUT IN HALF AND BURST INTO FLAMES AFTER IT COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER AIRCRAFT IN FORMATION FLYING TO GERMANY. THE TAIL OF THE PLANE FINISHED IN WOOLPACK LANE AFTER IT SEPERATED FROM THE FUSELAGE, WHICH LANDED NEAR THE GARDENS OF THE FRANCISCAN CONVENT IN BROAD LANE.
